Slay into the Holidays with Flying Colors: The Colors of Winter 2014

Hey girlies!

Since the holidays are upon us, I decided to talk about something that dictates the chicness of every outfit ever worn; color.

What are the colors of this season? What do I wear them with?
Well, Ladies, I am here to answer those questions for you! Here we go.

I like to split my colors into categories, so let's go with bright, jewel, soft and neutrals.

brights                             Yellow  Cherry, Cobalt,Cerulean , Royal

jewels                       Cranberry, Deep Emerald, Oxblood, Teal, Wine

soft tones             Petal Pink, Lilac, Lavender, Mauve Mist, Misted Yellow

neutrals                        Nude, Gray, Charcoal, Navy, Cream

Let's talk brights.
They are the perfect balance for the dark winter season and perfect tucked into a black skirt with tights. Perfect for jeans, perfect for everything!

1. Yellow! Pair this happy color with darker shades such as black and dark blue for a color combo that will really pop.

2. Cherry! Look cute sipping your cherry cola in this adorable color (and those silvers on Coke cans? One of the best colors to go with reds, including cherry!) by adding some metallic silvers and golds, or just some classic black and white.

3. Cobalt! Black skinnies and a pop of cobalt equals beautiful and ultra chic. By the way, can I have this jacket? Please?

4.Cerulean! Although this color is directly linked with Anne Hathway's The Devil Wears Prada, it's back on the runway. Again, the silver would look beautiful, as well as some subtle shades of deep black.

5. Royal blue! Wow, there are a ton of blues in this season! Anyways, as shown in the picture, pair this color with blacks and whites, and overall, go sharp! Sharp lines for sharp colors....

Jewels

1. Cranberry! Like in the pic, this color is very warm and comfy. So. pair it with some slick black jeans to balance everything out. Black leather looks beautiful.

2. Deep Emerald! Since it is such a deep deep color, I like more metallics with it. Silvers and golds! Christmas trees aren't covered with silver and gold by coincidence, right?

3. OXBLOOD! Yeah, that's all caps. This color has swept the world and is in every accessory. Hats, shoes, bags, shirts, skirts, sweaters, jeans, nail polishes.. The works. The simple black works, and a pop of metallic silver makes it work. Notice the belt in the picture with the black and oxblood.

4.Teal! Although teal doesn't seem like a Winter 2014 color, it's there. A little here, a sweater there. And next thing you know, teal is brightening the cold winter day outside (with the assistance of a caffeine packed coffee). It's a very casual color, so just wear with what you please. Black leather would look very chic... but like in the pic, some days blue jeans will pull off a perfectly cute and casual street look.

5. Wine! Although the drink may seem appealing, the color is even more so this season. Wear with blacks, greys (silvers too) and light wash jeans for a really casual look.

Tip: Google Aurora red for an interesting shade of red that might just make the runways...

Soft Tones

1. Petal Pink! This is yet another subtle color that you'll see in little things like your sweaters and favorite long sleeves, but don't ignore it! As you can see, the brown and blue jeans are very nice and casual... Black skinnies probably would have been my choice with this piece though...The brown belt with the half tucked?Beautiful.

2. Lilac! It's a mix between a little blue and grey and lavender.. Wear with some smooth blacks or dark wash jeans. Or, like the pic, double up the color to create a beautiful (I really love this look, it's absolutely gorgeous! The fitted jeans, small sweater and dark hair. Ahhhh!) outfit perfectly suited for the winter season.

3. Lavender! I.E. Lilac's cute cousin... Notice that the lavender has a little more of a pink undertone than the lilac... Wear with black and darker colors to balance out the springish tone of this color...

4. Mauve Mist! It's a lot less in than lavender and liliac, but it's our potential contender. Wear with black.

5. Pale Yellow! Yes, I used two pictures since I just couldn't pick.... So yellow. You can pair with bold colors such as the picture on the left (My favorite designer Ralph Lauren does this in nearly all of his collections) or for everyday chic, pair with blacks and whites.

Neutrals

1. Nude! Pair with a colorful outfit or everyday clothes to get a clean look that will keep you looking freshly chic.

2. Grey! Even after the novel so not describoing shades of this color, it seems to have made it. I love grey knits paired with lighter colors like mint, pale yellow and even petal pink.

3. Charcoal! Yep, this color is no longer that nasty black stuff, but instead a totally cute color to buy your next fav sweater in. It's a mix between dark gray and black, which is why it's most common in fabrics with threads and lots of weaving, such as sweaters. And since it's so dark, it looks great with mints, yellows and pinks.

4. Navy! This color has been a winter classic, and is in for yet another season. Yellows and creams (light browns as well) look the best with this color.

5. Cream! The perfect color for an oversized, chunky sweater. Can I have the one in the picture? Thanks.
Wear with dark blue jeans and colors like navy (dark blues).
